Bouclé looks beautiful and feels like nothing else, but it is one of the easiest fabrics to ruin with the wrong clean. We clean bouclé couches, armchairs and ottomans across Adelaide with a low-moisture method that protects the loops, lifts the grime and treats pet odour without leaving rings.

Bouclé is woven from looped yarn, which gives it that soft, nubby texture. Those loops are also what make it tricky. They catch and pull under stiff brushes or pet claws, they trap dust and oils deep in the texture, and they fuzz up if scrubbed. Most bouclé sold in Australia is a blend, often polyester with viscose, linen, cotton, acrylic or wool. The natural and viscose fibres in that mix are moisture-sensitive: over-wet them and let them dry slowly, and they can shrink, stiffen, or develop brown rings and watermarks.
That is why a standard heavy steam clean, or a hire machine, is a gamble on bouclé. The same water that works well on a hardy synthetic couch can leave a bouclé one patchy, rough and ringed.
Pet urine on bouclé is a common call, especially from cats, which seem to love the texture. The urine soaks through into the foam like any other fabric, but bouclé cannot take the heavy flushing that strong urine treatment often relies on. We treat it with a targeted enzyme process applied to the affected areas and the padding beneath, controlling the moisture carefully and extracting thoroughly so the fabric is not left soaking.
If a DIY clean or another wet clean has already been tried and the smell has spread or got worse, that is usually reactivated urine in the foam rather than a new problem. It can still be treated. We will tell you honestly on inspection what result to expect, including when a heavily saturated cushion insert may need replacing rather than cleaning.
Bouclé is priced from our published couch rates: armchairs from $45, 2-seat couches from $80, 3-seat from $110, sectionals and L-shapes from $180. A delicate blend that needs the slower low-moisture method can cost a little more for the extra time, and pet urine and odour treatment is from $40. We confirm the exact price on inspection before we start, with no hidden fees. Fabric protection is available afterwards from $30 and is worth considering on light bouclé.

Common questions
Heavy steam cleaning is risky on most bouclé, because the blends often contain viscose, linen or wool that can shrink, ring or brown when over-wetted. We use a controlled low-moisture method with strong extraction and fast drying instead, after testing the fabric first.
In most cases, yes. We use a targeted enzyme treatment on the affected areas and the foam beneath, with careful moisture control so the bouclé is not damaged. If a previous wet clean has spread the smell, that is usually reactivated urine in the padding, which can still be treated. We give an honest assessment on inspection.
Not with the right technique. Fuzzing comes from scrubbing and stiff brushes pulling the loops. We clean gently without aggressive agitation and groom the pile as it dries so the texture stays even.
Vacuum weekly with a soft upholstery tool, blot spills straight away (never rub), keep pet claws trimmed, and keep it out of strong direct sun. For a light-coloured bouclé, fabric protection after a professional clean buys you time to blot spills before they soak in.
