Sofa Dry Cleaning Adelaide

Some sofa fabrics should not get wet, and most can. We fabric-test every couch, then use a low-moisture "dry" clean on delicate fabrics and hot water extraction on hardy ones. Here is what each method actually is, when it applies, and what we will recommend for yours.

Quick answer

For couches, "dry cleaning" means a low-moisture clean, not a solvent wash like a dry cleaner gives your clothes. It is the safe choice for delicate, water-sensitive fabrics such as velvet, linen, cotton, wool, bouclé and viscose blends, and it is usually dry within an hour or two. Hot water extraction (steam cleaning) gives the deeper clean on hardy synthetic fabrics and dries in 3–6 hours. We test the fabric and use whichever suits it; the price is the same either way: 2-seater from $80, 3-seater from $110.

What sofa "dry cleaning" actually is

Sofa dry cleaning is not completely dry. It is a low-moisture method: instead of flushing the fabric with hot water, a cleaning solution is applied lightly, worked into the surface fibres and lifted back out, so the fabric ends up damp rather than wet and the padding underneath is never soaked. That is what we mean when we say dry cleaning, and we would rather be clear about it than let the name suggest something else.

It is also not the same as taking clothes to a dry cleaner. A couch cannot go through a dry-cleaning machine, so what we do on site is a low-moisture clean, not a solvent wash.

Dry cleaning vs steam cleaning for couches

Steam cleaning, properly called hot water extraction, injects hot water and cleaning solution into the fabric and immediately vacuums it back out under strong suction. It is the most thorough way to flush embedded soil and body oils out of a hardy fabric. Low-moisture cleaning is gentler and dries faster, and it is the right tool when water itself is the risk.

What we actually do on your couch

Most couches we clean in Adelaide are hardy synthetic fabrics, and they get hot water extraction because it lifts the most. Delicate or moisture-sensitive fabrics get the low-moisture method instead. Some couches get both: low moisture on a delicate back panel, full extraction on removable cushion covers that can take it. Leather gets neither; it gets a hand clean and conditioning.

The decision comes from a fabric test on a hidden spot, not from habit or what is quickest. If a fabric will not tolerate either method safely, we tell you before starting rather than risk it.

When dry cleaning is the right choice

When steam cleaning (hot water extraction) is better

If your couch has pet urine, a low-moisture clean will freshen the surface but will not reach the source of the smell, and we will tell you that rather than sell you the wrong clean.

Reading your couch's cleaning code

Look for a tag under a seat cushion or along the base. "W" means water-based cleaning is fine. "S" means solvent only: keep water off it at home and tell us when you book. "W/S" means either. "X" means vacuum only, and an honest cleaner should talk you through the risk before touching it. If the tag is gone, which is common on older couches, the fabric test answers the same question on the day.

Sofa dry cleaning prices

Dry cleaning costs the same as steam: the method changes to suit your fabric, the price does not. 2-seat sofa from $80, 3-seat from $110, sectional or L-shape from $180, U-shape or large modular from $230, armchairs from $45. Scotchgard protection is available from $30. Confirmed free on inspection, no hidden fees.

Common questions

Sofa Dry Cleaning Adelaide — questions

Is dry cleaning or steam cleaning better for a couch?

It depends on the fabric. Hot water extraction (steam) gives the deepest clean on hardy synthetic fabrics. A low-moisture dry clean is the safe choice for delicate, water-sensitive fabrics such as velvet, linen, wool and bouclé. We fabric-test first and use whichever suits, at the same price.

Is sofa dry cleaning completely dry?

No. It is a low-moisture clean: a small amount of cleaning solution is worked into the surface fibres and lifted out, so the fabric is damp rather than wet and the padding is not soaked. It is not a solvent wash like clothes dry cleaning.

How much does sofa dry cleaning cost in Adelaide?

The same as our steam cleaning: a 2-seat sofa from $80, a 3-seater from $110 and a sectional or L-shape from $180. The price is confirmed free on inspection with no hidden fees.

How do I know if my sofa needs dry cleaning?

Check the care label under a cushion. "S" means solvent only, so no water. "W" means water-based cleaning is fine, and "W/S" means either. If there is no label, we fabric-test before we start and recommend the safest method for your fabric.

Can dry cleaning remove pet urine smell from a couch?

Not properly. Urine soaks into the foam, and a low-moisture clean only reaches the surface. Removing the smell needs an enzyme treatment that reaches the padding, followed by extraction. That is an add-on from $40 to a normal clean.

How long does a dry-cleaned sofa take to dry?

Usually an hour or two, because very little moisture is used. A hot water extraction clean typically takes three to six hours.
