Quick answer
Upholstery cleaning in Adelaide with Couch Rescue starts at $15 per dining chair, $35 for an ottoman or bed-end bench, $45 for an armchair and $80 for a 2-seat couch (minimum booking $80). Office chairs and upholstered headboards are quoted from a photo. Every piece is fabric-tested first, then cleaned with hot water extraction (hardy fabrics) or a low-moisture method (delicate fabrics), and most pieces are dry within 3–6 hours.
Upholstery is not one material, and it should not be cleaned as if it were. Across Adelaide homes we clean fabric and leather couches, sofas and lounge suites, armchairs and recliners, dining and occasional chairs, office chairs, upholstered bed heads, ottomans and bar stools. Each fabric behaves differently: a hardy synthetic modular wants a deep hot water extraction, while a wool or velvet piece needs a gentle low-moisture clean to avoid shrinkage or watermarking.
That is why every job starts with a fabric test in an inconspicuous spot, before any water touches the visible surface. The method changes to suit your upholstery; the published price does not.
Dining chairs take more food, drink and sticky fingers than any other seat in the house, and the marks build up on the front edge of the seat and the top of the back where hands grab the chair. Fully upholstered chairs and drop-in seat pads both clean well. We pre-treat the food and drink marks, clean the whole seat so it dries evenly without a ring, and work carefully around timber or painted frames so cleaning solution does not sit on the finish.
Dining chairs are $15 each. Because a set of four or six is a small job on its own, they are often booked alongside a couch; the $80 minimum booking applies if the chairs are the only thing being cleaned. Light linen or cotton seats are the ones most worth protecting afterwards, and Scotchgard is available as an add-on from $30.
With more people working from home, the office chair has become one of the most-used seats in the house, and fabric task chairs collect sweat, skin oils and coffee in the seat pad and armrests. We clean fabric office chairs in place, keeping moisture low around the gas lift, tilt mechanism and any glued seams, and we spend most of the time on the seat and the lumbar area where the soiling actually is.
Mesh-back chairs are mostly a seat-pad job, and leather or PU executive chairs get a wipe-clean and condition rather than a wet clean. Office chairs are not on our published price list because they vary so much, so send a photo by WhatsApp or the quote form and we will give you a price before booking.
An upholstered bed head gets hair oil, skin cells and the odd cup of tea, usually in one darker band where people sit up to read. Headboards are cleaned where they are, on the bed or the wall, with a low-moisture method so the padding behind the fabric is not soaked. Velvet and linen headboards are common in newer bedrooms and get the same fabric test as a couch before we start.
Like office chairs, headboards are quoted from a photo because sizes and fabrics vary. If the mattress needs attention too, our sister business Mattress Rescue cleans mattresses across Adelaide and the two can be done in the same visit.
Ottomans and footstools are where feet, pets and plates end up, and bed-end benches pick up the same body oils as a headboard. They are $35 each and clean quickly, so they are usually added to a couch or armchair job. Storage ottomans are emptied and cleaned inside the lid as well as out, and leather or PU ottomans get the leather process rather than a wet clean.
The fabric decides the method. This is how the common upholstery fabrics in Adelaide homes are handled:
| Fabric | How we clean it | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|
| Polyester, microfibre, olefin (most family couches) | Hot water extraction | Hardy and fast-drying; microfibre is brushed afterwards so the pile sits evenly |
| Cotton and linen | Low-moisture clean, whole panels at a time | Can shrink or show water marks if over-wetted or spot-cleaned |
| Wool and wool blends | Low-moisture clean, cool and gentle | Shrinkage and felting if soaked or cleaned hot |
| Velvet and chenille | Low-moisture clean, pile brushed in one direction | Crushing and pile marks if rubbed |
| Bouclé | Low-moisture clean, loops lifted, not scrubbed | Loops can fuzz or distort if scrubbed |
| Viscose and rayon blends | Low-moisture clean after a dye test | Browning and dye bleed if over-wetted |
| Leather | pH-balanced hand clean, then condition | Never steam: it dries out and cracks the hide |
| Faux leather (PU, vinyl) | Gentle wipe-clean | Peeling PU is a surface failure that cleaning cannot fix |
Check the cleaning code on the tag under a cushion if you can find it (W, S, W/S or X) and tell us when you book. If there is no tag, the fabric test answers the same question on the day.

Fabric and leather, including delicate wool, velvet, linen, bouclé and viscose blends. We fabric-test every piece first and choose hot water extraction or a gentle low-moisture clean to suit the material, so a delicate piece is never over-wetted.

Yes, and it is the efficient way to book. Dining chairs (from $15 each), ottomans (from $35) and armchairs (from $45) are quick to add alongside a couch clean, which starts from $80.
Most upholstery is dry within 3–6 hours after hot water extraction. Low-moisture cleans on delicate fabrics dry faster, often within an hour or two. Good airflow from a fan or an open window speeds it up.
