Norwood questions
Yes, but with a low-moisture method rather than a soaking. Velvet and other pile fabrics can crush and ring if over-wetted, so we clean gently and then groom the pile so it dries lying the right way. Done properly the nap comes up even and the colour deepens. Done with a heavy steam wand it can be permanently marked, which is why we do not do that on velvet.
Always. A hidden patch gets a colour-fastness and fabric test before anything touches the visible surface. Some linens and cottons are not colour-fast, and finding that out on the arm of the couch is far too late. If the test shows any dye instability we switch to a gentler method. On a piece chosen for how it looks, the test is not optional.
