Yes, and they are dealt with in the right order. The sand comes out dry first, with a thorough vacuum of the seams before any water, so it is not driven deeper into the weave. Then the entertaining marks — wine, food, drinks — get pre-treatment matched to each and are extracted out. Because beach-house fabrics are often pale and delicate, we fibre-test and use the gentlest effective method so we clear the mess without watermarking the couch itself.
It is safe with the right method, which is why we test first. Linen and other light natural weaves can watermark or shrink if over-wetted, so we fibre-test in a hidden spot and clean at a low, controlled moisture level rather than soaking the piece. That lifts the sand, the spills and the general dulling without leaving rings behind. On a pale linen the caution is the whole point — the fabric that looks best is also the one that punishes a careless clean.
